Where to go
Florentin sits in the south of Tel Aviv, between Neve Tzedek and Jaffa, and it is where many locals head first for a bar. By day it is all carpentry workshops, small studios and graffiti. In the evening the shutters come down and the pavements fill with tables, stools and people holding a beer.
The heart of it is around Florentin Street and Vital Street and the short streets in between, with bars spilling into the blocks nearby. Most places are small: neighbourhood bars, pubs, bars with a DJ that turn into dance bars after midnight, and a few tiny stages for live music. On the eastern edge, towards Abarbanel Street and the Kiryat HaMelacha area, there are also clubs and parties that start late and finish in the morning.
Something is open most nights, but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are the big ones. The bars fill up gradually, and after midnight some pavements are hard to get along. On Friday the night starts later, after Shabbat dinner. This week's events in the neighbourhood are listed on this page, and for the whole city there is our Tel Aviv nightlife guide.
Walking is easiest: Rothschild Boulevard, Neve Tzedek and Jaffa are all within reach, and a night in Florentin combines well with Jaffa. Elifelet station on the light rail's Red Line is close by, but the light rail does not run on Shabbat, so Friday nights need another plan. Taxis pass along the main roads, with longer waits late at weekends. Night buses run in the Tel Aviv area on some nights of the week; check a transit app for that night. Street parking is scarce and partly reserved for residents, so drivers should look for a paid car park. And if you drink, don't drive.
Around Florentin Street and Vital Street and the little streets next to them, where you can walk from bar to bar without a plan. The clubs and late parties are mostly on the eastern edge of the neighbourhood, towards Abarbanel Street and Kiryat HaMelacha.
For most neighbourhood bars, no: you just turn up. On Thursday and Friday, and especially with a group, it is worth calling ahead or booking a table. Club parties sometimes sell tickets in advance, and the event page shows what the venue published about entry and minimum age.
If you are staying in the centre, you can walk. Otherwise take a taxi from one of the main roads, or a night bus when one is running. From Friday afternoon until Shabbat ends on Saturday evening the light rail is not running and options are thinner, so plan your way back before you go out.
